How It Works

You select a keyword that you want to use for your business. For example, if your restaurant is called “Joe’s Burger Shack,” you might choose the keyword “JoesBurgers” or “BurgerShack” or “JoesBurgerShack.” It’s up to you to decide your keyword.

You can create cards, table tents, posters, signs, vehicle lettering, and anything that encourages your fans and customers to text your keyword to a 6-digit number called a “shortcode.” So your sign might say, “For coupons, daily specials and to find out the location of our burger truck, text “TEXTOPT JoesBurgers” to 368638.

Customers interested in receiving information from you would follow these instructions on their mobile device. They’ll receive a confirmation message, along with instruction that standard rates may apply and how to opt out at any time they wish.

By the way, this doesn’t cost your customers a dime, except for whatever contract they have with their mobile hosting provider. If they have an unlimited texting plan (and most texters do), it won’t cost them anything to sign up. And of course, they can opt out at any time just by texting back the word “STOP.” Customers interested in receiving information from you would follow these instructions on their mobile device.

Once the customer has opted in, the ball is in your court!

You have access to a management portal, where you go to create your offers, manage your keyword(s) and view number of subscribers.

So on a typical Monday morning, I might log in and set up a new message for the day. I’ll decide what burger specials I’m offering each day notifying my subscribers of those specials.   I might also want to let my subscribers know what bands are playing at the restaurant this weeken, or that we’re doing a benefit for the local children’s hospital next Friday. Maybe I’m running a happy hour special on Wednesday from 4-6 that is only available to members of my “text-only” club.

The whole thing will take about 5 minutes.
